KURSUS DIY PERTUKANGAN KAYU
Untuk Kebun Komuniti Subang Jaya
‘Kursus DIY Pertukangan Kayu’ for the Puchong Community Garden Project was successfully put on by Yayasan UniKL and our advocacy network REKAYU. The Subang Jaya Smart Vibrant Community Grants 2023 programme has given this project a grant worth RM21K to train 29 trainees from MPP Zone 4 MBSJ in carpentry skills. This do-it-yourself undertaking will benefit the Puchong Community Garden Project.
The goal of this project is to educate the neighbourhood about woodworking. In addition to teaching carpentry skills, this community activity can support SDG suggestions to recycle used wood in small enterprises in order to decrease the cutting down of new trees. Additionally, the community’s gained talents can be enhanced to produce revenue through social entrepreneurship, either for oneself or for the good of the whole.
This training has engaged a total of 29 students, who have provided carpentry for the plantation. According to the week, these volunteers were split up into three groups. The first group takes place on August 19–20, the second group on September 2–3, and the third group on September 9–10, 2023 at Pusat Komuniti MPP Zone 4 from 9.00 am to 4.00pm.
This course offers both theoretical and practical instruction, using a “Do It Yourself” methodology under the guidance of a qualified instructor. Beginning with the description of various forms of wood and the development of carpentry equipment, a wood product with commercial value is the end result. They are each given their own equipment and are required to finish the assignment on their own.
At the Subang Jaya Community Centre, the Closing Ceremony and the awarding of participation certificates were held successfully on September 10. Both YB Michelle Ng Mei Sze, an ADUN from Subang Jaya, and Tuan AR Kamarul Hisham Bin Haji Yeop Hashim, a councillor for Zone 4, were present at this magnificent celebration. We hope that this incredibly effective course can serve as a model and be repeated in the future. and it is hoped that everyone who has received the fundamental information and training will be able to put it to use for both themselves and the community.
